About Lola Haze TM Designer, Laura Mehlinger
Designer Laura Mehlinger has been studying, designing and making clothing since the time she could hold a needle & thread. Laura received her BA from Harvard in English, where she was dubbed “Harvard’s Ace Student of Fashion” for creating and showing her own line of women’s wear in the only one-person fashion show there in memory. After holding design positions at Gap, Inc, Laura decided to go out on her own. She named her line after the famous temptress Dolores “Lolita” Haze from Nabokov’s Lolita, which she wrote her thesis about and which continues to intrigue and inspire her. On a year-long solo trip around the world, Laura carefully collected exotic objects, fabrics and stories. These inspiring visuals coupled with the ideas of difference, quirkiness and elements of surprise are driven into her designs:

“Design is molding juxtapositions: elegance and kitsch, innocence and seduction, playfulness and sophistication, and for Lola Haze™, public and private. I love lingerie because it dances between public and private domains. It can be a woman’s own secret that makes her feel special, or something beautiful for display. Lola Haze™ is for a playful, confident woman who loves the transformative power of clothing and dresses for no one but herself. She can wear Lola Haze™ as innerwear, loungewear, or outerwear.“– Laura Mehlinger

Produced with love in NYC, Mehlinger’s family used to be in the garment business in the Lower East Side during tenement time. She says:

“I am proud to design and produce all our products in New York City’s historic garment district. Lola Haze TM is inspired by the boldness and energy of New York City, and we are proud of the authenticity and quality of doing production here. I actually have a pair of these enormous cutting shears that I think were my great-great grandfathers. It feels kind of full circle and authentic to me to be doing this in New York.”

About Lola Haze TM
Named after the famous temptress Dolores “Lolita” Haze in Nabokov’s Lolita, Harvard grad-turned designer Laura Mehlinger created Lola Haze TM as a lingerie/loungewear/outerwear fusion for the playful, confident woman with a bold, whimsical fashion sense. Produced with love in New York City, Lola Haze™ playwear is for women who like to play in and out of the bedroom. She is a seductress, dresses for herself, and has a bold, whimsical fashion sensibility. Not just for the boudoir, she takes Lola out on the town as a layering piece or stand-alone fashion statement paired with a wow necklace and killer heels. Every woman with eclectic taste and a love of bold glamour is a Lola girl. Lola Haze™ takes inspiration from New York City and Prince to art deco architecture and influences across the globe, all of which are infused into the line’s intricate detailing and innovative color and fabric combinations.
