Deryck Todd

Deryck Todd’s distinctive head wear designs have rightfully earned him recognition in the fashion scene. Recently his work was featured in Vogue Italia and Seventeen Magazine. Todd’s work was commissioned for the Betsey Johnson S/S 12 show. His richly embellished caps are sold at Patricia Field. Some of the hats are encrusted with gold spikes, jewels, and chains, which are a distinctive trademark of his style ethos. Others, like the one inspired by Billy Idol’s song, “White Wedding” sums up an entire gown in a hat.

What makes him even more interesting  is the sometimes salty, often hilarious commentary on New York subway riders and street style which he stealthily captures with his cell phone. You can catch these musings on New Yorkers on his blog, appropriately titled Turn-Styles, which is always spot-on, and gives us another side of this designer.

Additionally, Todd had a hand in the making of the forthcoming film entitled “The Tents”, which chronicles the days of Fashion Week at Bryant Park in New York, and features interviews with many top designers including Richie Rich, Betsey Johnson, Donna Karan, and Tommy Hilfiger. View some of his designs in the slide show below.
