In an effort to help reduce the dropout rate amongst NYC students in low income areas, SPARK collaborated with Wishbone to empower young people to continue their education.

Nami Spring 2012

Sarah Nami Ahn is a Korean American designer with brains & creativity. Not only does she possess a PhD from UCLA, she is the creator and founder of NAMI. NAMI is a lifestyle brand based out of Los Angeles. The Spring Summer 2012 Collection by NAMI was inspired by Sarah’s worldwide travels and her love of origami. Her fondness of the Japanese art of paper folding inspired her collection that translated into pleats and triangular sleeves that fold up onto the shoulders.

It was her first runway show in NYC held at the Audi Forum on September 13th, 2011. Who can believe a neuroscience major can be a talented womenswear designer. She is the future and inspiration to aspiring up and coming designers.

As seen in the detail work of her designs, her collection is everyday pieces that can be worn in the daytime or evening. From sleeveless chiffon jersey top, pleated tank dress, a-line halter dress, sleeveless scoop back dress, strapless chiffon crepe gown, pleated shoulder day dress, chiffon tuxedo shirt, chiffon contrast color halter vest, and wrap front capri pants. These are ready to wear pieces with elegance.

Kareen Borgella Spring 2011

Kareen Borgella debuted her Egyptian-Inspired Spring 2011 collection on December 2nd. The colors, elegance and texture of the costumes in the film Cleopatra caught her attention. She adapted this aesthetic into her collection for the modern girl in today’s world. Borgella’s colorful collection consists of silk charmuese, silk taffeta, iridescent silk chiffon, Dutch and poly satin as well as textured georgette.

Purple has always been Kareen’s favorite hue which she believes is a power color for royalty and elegance, emboldened further by the use of gold accents. Kareen also mixed in burnt yellow and orange hues. Her pieces are beautifully crafted, well draped silhouettes of art in motion.

Milly Spring 2011

Spring was in the air for the Milly S/S 2011 Show! Designer Michelle Smith was inspired by the stylish, eccentric Upper East-Side Art Collector Peggy Guggenheim.

Bold geometrics that mixed with feminine florals and tribal elements dominated the runway. The bright color palette consisted of coral, green, orange and yellow.  The line also debuted an accessories collection: Milly Jewelry featured chain rope necklaces, encrusted bracelets and tribal inspired wood and agate necklaces. The Milly Handbag collection consisted of glossy patent, resin tortoise chains, shiny goatskin and tumbled nappa lamb. Featured were belted shift dresses, poppy dresses, striped cardigans, print dresses, print coats, slim pants, printed maxi dresses, tweed coats, cropped jackets mixed with long skirts, full, round skirts paired with slim bodices and fitted sheath dresses that were complemented by statement coats. Bold embellishments punctuated the luxurious look.

Wearing her collection would make any girl feel like a well-traveled, well-heeled socialite on her spring European holiday. The geometric Peggy Guggenheim glasses were a perfect finish touch to end the show.
